Extreme 7" ZJ with D60 & Ford 9" Swap
This ZJ came to us with another manufacturers bolt on long arm kit which was falling apart. The customer also provided a rebuilt transmission, a rebuilt and upgraded 231 transfer case, and a Currie Built HP Ford 9" front axle. We ordered a Solid Axle HP D60 with disc brakes, 35 spline shafts and ARB airlockers and added our heavy duty high clearance axle bracket kit.
Once we checked over all the parts, we removed the bolt on kit which you may see some extra holes in the unibody and got to work. After cleaning up the frame, we welded in our subframe. The subframe consists of a 3 piece bolt in, then weld in cross member. The 3 piece design allows you to remove the transmission without having to remove any of the suspension links. Behind this cross member are 2 unibody rails, one on each side which should be stitch welded into the unibody and fully welded to the front and rear cross member. Behind this unibody rail are the rear frame brackets which transform the rear 5 link to a 4 link design. The 4 link comes with a weld on 4 link truss which allows removal of the rear trackbar. You do have to modify the exhaust with this 4 link design, but the added flex and strength is well worth the extra work.
This customer also added our optional 1/4 flat skid, our modified Currie Anti-rock kit, and custom steering to finish off this project.
